Fallschirmjäger-Lehrkompanie 2008 Barracks Information
As Fallschirmjäger on barracks duty and field exercise, we will be both inside and outside. This is a period living history event, an excellent opportunity to tighten up both your barracks and field impressions. You will undergo a safety and authenticity inspection prior to entering the event. Non-period items will not be permitted, period. Plan on 10-40 degrees Fahrenheit days, 0-20 degrees Fahrenheit evenings. It will most likely be very cold and wet! Humidity will be low; rain and snow are very possible. Plan accordingly. Bedding/Towels – You will need one white fitted mattress sheet, one white flat sheet, one checked pillow case, and one Mannschaftsdecken (Blanket) with a checked blanket cover on top. Non-period sleeping bags not permitted. Typically the Gap barracks are very warm. Showers are available, bring a white towel and washcloth. Metal Lockers - There will be standing metal lockers next to each bunk - bring wooden coathangers for your uniforms Luftwaffe Rucksacks - Bring your Luftwaffe Rucksacks. Store your field gear in them, and sling it over the posts at the end of your bunk (Keeping field gear in Rucksacks will help keep your lockers neat and orderly for your uniforms.) Schemel – Typically each FJ would have a Schemel, or wooden stool. Electrical Devices – Period-style only. Electricity is available. No modern lights. Eisschränke / Wasser – Very small (!) coolers will be permitted, if hidden. Plenty of water is available on site. Bring your period water containers and buckets. Here's a sample of a cooler inside a period wooden Bierkasten. Feuer – Due to site restrictions and meals being provided, fires are not permitted, except where directed. Esbit and other small period field burners are permitted. WC/Latrinen – Latrines and Showers will be provided, these are regular toilet facilities. Bring your own Toilettenpapier, no Spaten is required! Duschraum – Indoor showers and sinks are available in the barracks. Alkoholische Getränke – Please provide your own Bier, Wein, or other German drinks, as you wish. Bring a period steins, glasses flasks, and/or flasks. |
