Fallschirmjäger-Lehrkompanie
Normandie 1944

Event Activities

  • Ju-52 "Tante Ju" Flugfahrt (Aircraft Ride):

Experience flight like the World War Two Fallschirmjäger! A 20-30 minute Ju-52 flight with your Gruppe in uniform. This Ju-52 is marked just like one that took part in the invasion of Kreta, flown by Oberleutnant Franz Lankenau. Experience memories, photos and a flight of a lifetime.

Click Here For More Ju-52 Information

  • Fallschirmjägersprungausbildung (Ground/Jump School):
Participate in a period Fallschirmjäger Ground School training at the airfield, including the infamous Rolls, and Tarp Diving. Just like last year we will have the jump tower, along with a ground training version of the Ju-52. Click here for more on the Jump Training.
  • Geländeübungen (Field Training Exercises):

Tired of the same tactical events? Here’s your chance to train as Fallschirmjäger did. Participate with your Gruppe in several Geländeübungen or Field Training Exercises. These Geländeübungen will feature FJ-Gruppe-level actions, designed to maximize the period feel.

Click here for more information on our training program.

  • Waffenübung (Live Fire Exercise):

What could be better than live firing the weapons used by the Fallschirmjäger? And even better in a group!

As a special event, participants will have the opportunity to live fire a Flak 38 2,0cm weapon (courtesy of Ben LeFever)!

Click here for more information on the live fire.

  • 6 Mahlzeiten in einer FJ-Kompaniekantine (6 Field Meals in the FJ Company Mess Hall):
  • 2 Festessen (Fr. u. Sa.) in der FJ-Kompaniekantine (2 Formal Meals in the Mess Hall):

Join the entire FJ-Lehrkompanie in the period FJ-Kompaniekantine (FJ Company Mess Hall) for the event meals. The mess hall will be completely decorated German style, and will be the focal point for many of the event's activities. In the same building you will find the veterans' billets, shower and lantrine facilities, picture studio, musical entertainment, period films, and the FJ-Bierstube. (If you have items to make the mess hall more period, please contact the event organizers.)

Just like in the Fallschirmjäger, you’ll get a hot Frühstück (Breakfast) and special Abendessen or Festessen (Dinner or Formal Mess) from a period FJ-Kompaniekantine (Mess Hall) to include Milch, Tee and Kaffee. A field Mittagsessen (Lunch) in the form of an Eiserne Ration will be provided at breakfast. Six meals - Friday dinner to Sunday lunch.

You’ll definitely need your Kochgeschirr (Mess Kit) and Eßbesteck (Utensils) for breakfast and lunch.. . . If you bring your Maggi and Ahoj-Brause, you’re a real Alte Hase!

As special events, Friday and Saturday night will feature a Festessen (Formal Mess). All participants are highly encouraged to wear your best formal uniforms, including the summer dress uniform. We will have many special touches to these two dinners, and you are encouraged to bring your period formal dishes and silverwear.

As is customary at the FJ-LK events, the food will be of the highest quality, there will be plenty, and will include a mix of German and Norman food, after all it is Normandie 1944.

Hot and cold water will be available for drinking and washing, bring your period containers and buckets.

Click here for the Meals Menu.

  • FJ-Bivouac:
  • WC u. Duschraum (Indoor Bathroom and Showers):

Field billets under Zeltbahnen, canvas, and parachutes. Hay bales for ground padding and seating. For this year's event, indoor shower and restroom facilities with hot and cold water are available!

Every effort is being made to insure only period items are in the bivouac and training areas. Luftwaffe and Fallschirmjäger Spieß, Feldgendarmerie, Melder, Sanitäter, Köche, Musiker and Kriegsberichter will man the bivouac area. Click here for more details on the event bivouac guidelines.

  • Luftwaffe Fahrzeuge und Waffen (Vehicles and Weapons):
Period vehicles will be available, including Kübelwagen (courtesy Ben LeFever), a DKW Motorrad (courtesy Greg Smith), and FLAK 38 (courtesy Ben LeFever), all in Luftwaffe colors, for transport. We plan on having lMG (MG34/42) available so each Gruppe can be equipped as a typical FJ-Gruppe. If you have period vehicles or other weapons you plan to bring to the event, please contact the event organizers.
  • Ramcke-Meindl Fallschirmjägererkunde (FJ-LK Event Certificates):

Each event participant will receive a certificate, named in honor of two of the most revered Generäle der Fallschirmtruppe, Bernhard Ramcke and Eugen Meindl. As a special addition, this certificate will be signed by each of the veterans in attendance. Each participant will also receive a copy of the Liederbuch der FJ-Lehrkompanie (FJ-LK Songbook).

  • Kriegsberichter der Luftwaffe u. Fotographie (LW War Correspondents and Studio Photo Portraits):

Have your photo portrait made just like the Fallschirmjäger! Period digital photos will be taken by several Kriegsberichter der Luftwaffe (Luftwaffe War Correspondents) at no charge. This year we will be having several Kriegberichter, as we realized that documenting the entire event was too much for one Kriegsberichter. Bring your cameras also!

Click here for more information on the Kriegberichter der Luftwaffe.

    • Fallschirmgerätelotto / Fallschirmjäger-Related Equipment Raffle:

All participants who register by July 1st will have a chance to win several FJ-related items, including a custom one-of-a-kind 1/6 scale Fallschirmjäger figure by Hugo Hidalgo, several bottles of German liquor, along with many other cool items to be announced. (Please contact the event organizers if you have something cool we can raffle off.)The raffle will take place Saturday evening at 20,00 Uhr (20:00 or 8:00pm); you must be present to win. (Click here for more details on the Lotto.)

    • FJ-Appellen und Ehrenverleihungen (Formations and Awards Ceremonies):
Take part in morning and evening Appellen (Formations) of the FJ-Lehrkompanie. Come prepared to follow the German formation commands listed on this site. Fallschirmjäger Veterans and Unit Commanders will also decorate their men in period awards ceremonies.
    • Kameradschaft, FJ-Bierstube u. Kantine und Musiker (Comradeship, Biergarten and Entertainment):

The Biergarten der Fallschirmjäger will be open nightly, offering Bier, Wein and other German beverages. Due to the regulations at Camp Atterbury, we must provide the alcoholic beverages. More information to follow, although we will be able to provide this at decent pricing, in addition to making it easier for our travelling participants.

The Kantine will feature treats the German soldier could purchase from his Kompaniekantine, and we will be providing Germany military script (courtesy of FJ-LK participant Jeff Methany) for the Biergarten and Kantine.

Enjoy Jäger Peter Tabor and the Freichör Carentan on accordion playing all the popular period, Fallschirmjäger and Landserlieder. Liederbucher (Song Books) will be available for all.

    • FJ-Veteranenbesuch und Gedenknis (Veterans Visit & Memorial):

Speak to actual WW2 Fallschirmjäger veterans about their wartime experiences, uniforms & equipment! A unique opportunity to visit with those who proudly served their country, and honor those who gave the ultimate sacrifice.

Visit with Fallschirmjäger Veteran Tony Nemec (see picture at right), along with fellow Fallschirmjäger Veteran Klaus Meindl and Hermann Ramcke, sons of Fallschirmjäger legends Generäle der Fallschirmtruppe Eugen Meindl and Bernhard Ramcke.
